I'm interested in making
art which contrasts the idea that humans are rational, civilized beings with
the idea that we're nasty, violent animals.
Art is a participatory
experience; the viewers’ reaction is the true medium. I work with the surprise of those who see
my work, using it as an entry point to explore subjects which evoke polarized
feelings among them. If all goes well the
introductory shock opens viewers' eyes to absurdity, and invites them to reconceptualize
their world in a more skewed, darkly whimsical manner. If all goes poorly the audience is
disinterested, and the work evokes apathy. Here's hoping that
you--the viewer--find this artwork as interesting to consider as I found it
to create. (If you don't, I'll have to
try something else.) --Christopher Carver,
